Why E-series values look odd
Standard resistor values follow a geometric progression so that adjacent values overlap by their tolerance: E12 (±10%) has 12 values per decade, E24 (±5%) has 24, E96 (±1%) has 96. That's why you can buy a 4.7 kΩ but not a 5 kΩ. When a design calls for an in-between value, either accept the nearest standard (this tool shows the error) or combine two resistors in series/parallel.
